Android TV/Fire TV
There is an official Jellyfin app for android based TV sticks and boxes, including FireTV sticks & boxes.
The app supports pretty much all video codecs but is limited to the audio codecs supported by your TV/Receiver. Most titles with exotic audio formats like TrueHD have a backup audio track that should work if your setup doesn’t support them.
When launching the app for the first time, add a new server with this address:

Section titled “Android/Fire TV App Issues”Here are some issues I’ve either noticed or been told about:
- AV1 format can’t be played on Google TV (pre-2022 model) and Chromecast sticks.
- Some anime subtitles prevent the video from loading.
- Google casting breaks if you skip ahead in longer movies.
Older Amazon devices (older than Fire Stick 4k max 2021) can’t play HEVC (H.265) at all. Most new release movies are in this format.maybe fixed- Audio will sometimes go out of sync in long movies on Fire TV.
- Skipping ahead in some movies will crash ExoPlayer on Fire TV.
- Fire TV sticks can’t play DTS audio found on some Blu Ray rips. In the app settings, enable “down mix to stereo” to fix
